About
We are investigating robotics engineers who are working to solve problems inherent in four-legged robots (balance, strength, resilience, sensory function, and adaptability). We want to discover if solutions informed by biomimetic study of mammalian quadrupeds (cats and horses) would be better. This involves a studying the evolution, biology, and physics of how horses, cats, and other four-legged creatures utilize their legs, hooves, and center of mass.
Hi! My name is Elise Propst, and I am a freshman at Ambridge High School. I joined this project because I am interested in quadruped robotics. I won six science fair competitions, thus far. I also compete in long-range shooting competitions. In addition to enjoying robotics, circuitry, and science, I am an equestrian. My favorite animals are horses and dogs. In this project, I want to explore the differences in biomimetic design versus design unshackled from physiological limit. I am also interested in exploring if the evolutionary design of four legged mammals inform the synthetic designs of four legged robots. Future plans include becoming a robotic technician.
Hi! My name is Eugene Haley and I am a senior at Central Valley High School. I joined this project because of my interest and knowledge in circuitry. I read, study, and work on problems from my father's electrical engineering, computer science, and microcircuit college textbooks for the fun. I enjoy assisting my father in creating computer monitors and learning about circuitry.
At my school, I founded the Debate Club, and I am the current president of the Club that has 86 members! I competed at the state competition for Future Business Leaders of America in Introduction to Information Technology and Public Speaking. I have been a lawyer for our Mock Trial team all throughout high school. I am a current cast member in the Musical.
In addition, I have played baseball since I was three, soccer for seven years, basketball for six years, golf for two years, and football for one year.
To help make the world a better place, I have started a Gofundme page and started a t-shirt sale at my school in order to donate money to National Association for Down Syndrome, where the money will promote awareness to the biological disability, that my Great Uncle had.
Working on this project gives me hands-on skills that I will need for a life time. I dream of working with NASA as an electrical engineer.

Jamison Franz was one of the founders at 4-Step Robotics. She worked with Elise in 2018-19 to start the fellowship, develop its mission, and make their first video.
